For less urgent situations or if you see suspicious activity, call TAOS COUNTY CENTRAL DISPATCH at 575-758-2217. If you only add one number to your phone contacts, it should be this one, because they contact the appropriate agency.

Taos County Crime Stoppers has a website to view active cases. You can submit an anonymous tip at https://www.p3tips.com/tipform.aspx?ID=712&CX=2c358b or call 575-758-4258 (HALT). Their call center, located in Canada, never asks for your name or any other identifying information.

If you have an alarm system, please fill out an “Alarm System Application Registration” form: https://www.taosnm.gov/DocumentCenter/View/3168/Alarm-Permit-PDF and submit it at Town Hall at the Utility Billing Dept. (400 Camino de la Placita) or you can call the Planning Dept at 575-751-2016. This is secured information that the police would use if your alarm system is activated and you are not at home. It tells them how to reach you, which neighbor might have a key, etc. There is an annual $10 fee to file this form.
DARK SKIES ORDINANCE This link includes helpful illustrations for complying with Town of Taos (and Taos County and NM State) outside lighting configurations. Please be thoughtful of your neighbors and assure that any motion detector lighting automatically shuts off after the 12 minute time limit. And be sure your outdoor lights are shielded and down-facing.

PET OWNER'S (per Town of Taos Ordinance):
Section 6.16.040.B.1: Any animal, excluding cats, off of its owner's property shall be kept on a leash at all times in compliance with this chapter, and/or under the immediate physical control of a person capable of restraining the animal. Voice command is not an acceptable form of control, except in areas specifically designated by the town.
Section 6.20.090.B.1: No owner of any animal shall allow a dog or cat to defecate upon public property or upon any private property other than the property of the animal's owner without thoroughly removing and disposing of the feces.
